“I can barely conceive the thought that you, as a ‘young’ voter,
participating in a presidential election will never experience a time when
the candidates were all white males, and that’s just they way it is. To
think back down the road, to the times and events that you have heard of -
woman’s right movements, suffrages, civil rights, street riots, bus
segregation, black voting rights, etc., then to see that nearly dissolve
to a statement in constitutional documents and declarations already over
200 years old - ‘that all men are created equal’, and ‘of the people, by
the people and for the people’, and ‘all people, regardless of race, color
and creed’, just unravels the shroud under which this country has existed.
Where America has said all of what it stands for is based upon these
principles, then existed for 200+ years denying it’s own injustice.
Yesterday, we saw us become a little closer to putting into practice our
own doctrine. I scares many, hell, it scares me. I read, then viewed the
victory speech, and is saw many truths we are to realize - that we have
only just begun, that we are more deeply obligated to the task, that we
are more required to stay involved, that we are responsible for making
this now work. And one more thing, Yes, we can!”
